It is fall, but feels like winter. The year is drawing to a close. A death in our extended family has brought a life to its end. The lambs are all gone, as are a couple of the older members of the flock. So many endings.
But life is a circle – endings bring beginnings, and our optimism keeps hope alive when things are bleak. The photo with this post is a reminder of the curious juxtapositions life brings us. Optimistic little daffodils with snowy hats. New beginnings as the earth awakens from its winter slumber. It is so easy to get mired down in loss, to feel defeated in the face of continuing health issues and adrift without your family. But there is that persistent belief that between beginnings and endings is a lifetime of wonder and opportunity. We make plans, start projects and investigate new ideas. Tomorrow is just a day away.
The farm is full of reminders of the circle of life. The lambs are gone but the ewes are pregnant. The leaves have fallen, but new growth is emerging for next year’s garlic crop. The moon waxes and wanes.
The past gave us lessons, the present gives us opportunity and the future gives us hope. As we finish another year, I wish you happiness and optimism.
